Excessive sweating is a problem that reduces the quality of people’s daily life and can also become a source of self-doubt. People whose quality of life decreases due to excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, can step into a more comfortable life with sweating treatment.
What is Excessive Sweating?
Sweating, which allows toxins to be expelled, is normally considered as a healthy result of body functions. When an intense exercise is performed or in hot weather, sweating is the action that balances the body temperature and allows the body to cool down. However, if it becomes excessive, sweating can have many negative effects on individuals.
People with sweaty palms, soles of the feet, chest, groin and armpits may avoid moving, socializing and even shaking hands due to the complaints they experience. In order to eliminate the complaints experienced, it is possible to determine the causes of excessive sweating and to plan a personalized sweating treatment.
What are the Symptoms of Excessive Sweating?
Symptoms of excessive sweating, which occur due to the sweat glands working too much for different reasons, can go far beyond the complaints caused by normal sweating. Every person can sweat after exertion, in hot weather, under stress and pressure; the body’s sweating reaction in such situations is extremely natural.
Individuals can be diagnosed with excessive sweating;
- The complaints have been ongoing for at least 6 months and
- It should appear as regional excessive sweating.
In addition to all these;
- It should be symmetrical,
- Reducing the quality of life of individuals,
- Symptoms such as occurring even without situations that trigger sweating may be among the symptoms of excessive sweating.
What are the Causes of Excessive Sweating?
There may be many different physiological and/or psychological reasons behind excessive sweating. Excessive sweating, which can occur as a symptom of health problems, can sometimes occur without any cause.
If there is no underlying medical cause for excessive sweating, this condition is called “primary hyperhidrosis”. If excessive sweating is caused by an underlying health problem, it is called “secondary hyperhidrosis”. Secondary hyperhidrosis is known to be associated with genetic predisposition.
Health problems that can cause excessive sweating include;
- Diabetic hypoglycemia,
- Unexplained fever,
- Overactive thyroid glands,
- Side effects of the medicines used,
- Hormonal changes during menopause may be involved.
For this reason, it is important for individuals with excessive sweating to undergo a comprehensive medical examination to learn the causes of these complaints.
How is excessive sweating treated?
Excessive sweating treatment is planned in line with the causes that cause sweating.
Within the scope of excessive sweating treatment;
- Cream and deodorant treatment,
- Surgical methods,
- Botox Application can be applied for excessive sweating.
Botox Application in Sweating Treatment
One of the most effective methods in the treatment of primary hyperhidrosis is Botox application without surgery. Toxin injection for sweating is performed in areas with localized sweating. Thus, the receptors in the area that cause sweating are temporarily blocked and the release of substances that stimulate the sweat glands is prevented.
Toxin treatment can be safely applied to body parts such as armpits, hands and feet.
In the treatment of excessive sweating with toxin, the application area is numbed with anesthetic cream before the procedure. Then, the patient-specific dose of toxin is injected into different points in the area. The procedure is completed in about 30 minutes in line with the width of the area. The effects of the procedure are fully realized approximately 10 days after the treatment.
Although the duration of effect of Botox treatment for sweating may vary from person to person and depending on the application area, it can generally continue for 6-8 months. When the effect period ends, toxin application should be repeated.
There are no significant side effects of toxin application in sweating treatment. Temporary redness and sensitivity in the application area is considered normal. These side effects are expected to disappear in a short time.
